Aspiration Type Automatic Smoke / Fire Detection with Alarm System for Rail Cars
N&S HOCHIKI - FIRE & SMOKE DETECTION SYSTEM
Technical Details
An aspiration type Automatic Smoke / Fire Detection with Alarm System is used in the active fire protection of Rail Cars. This system consists of a high sensitivity Aspirating Smoke Detection Unit connected to a network of pipes. These pipes draw air from various points throughout the coach.
The sampling chamber in the Aspirating Smoke Detection Unit detects smoke particles suspended in the air before they become visible to the naked eye. In this way, it provides a very early warning of fire events, allowing timely intervention.

Main Components of System:
Aspirating Smoke Detection Unit (HOCHIKI - FIRElink-25):
The HOCHIKI FIRE link-25 is a sophisticated air sampling smoke detection system designed to provide early warning of fire. Its key features are:
- Air Sampling Technology: The HOCHIKI FIRElink-25 uses sampling pipes to continuously draw air from the protected area into the detector, providing highly sensitive and accurate smoke
- Laser-Based Detection: Utilizes advanced laser technology to detect the presence of smoke particles in the air samples, enabling early detection of even small amounts of
- Multiple Alarm Levels: Configurable alarm thresholds allow for multiple levels of alarm sensitivity, providing graded alerts depending on the concentration of smoke
Threshold Values of the System for Automatic Smoke / Fire Detection System Vande Bharat Coaches
Stage | Alarm | Threshold (% obs/m) | Delay Period (Seconds) |
– | Alert | 0.35 ± 0.05 | 20 |
1 | Action | 0.6 ± 0.05 | 30 |
2 | Fire | 1.6 ± 0.05 | 45 |
Note: The audio and visual alarm indication at driver console (driver desk) will be only for Stage-1(Action) and Stage-2(Fire) of detection.
- High Sensitivity: Designed to detect smoke at a very early stage, often before it is visible to the eye, allowing for rapid response to potential fire
- Diagnostics and Maintenance: Includes features for system diagnostics and maintenance, ensuring ongoing reliability and performance.
